Alterations in the sex hormones causes significant variation in gingival keratinization. The study is based on comparing the pattern of keratinization in post-menopausal women and women of reproductive age. The aim of this study is to evaluate and compare the pattern of keratinization in post-menopausal women and women of reproductive age using Papanicolaou stain. Sample collection was done. Papanicolaou staining procedure was carried out. Stained slides were viewed under microscope for the evaluation. The results were entered in SPSS software version 21. Comparing the cell differentiation types between the study groups and Comparison of cell differentiation types within the study groups were done. Alteration in sex hormones cause variation in gingival keratinization. Physiological levels of oestrogen and progesterone in pregnancy stimulates prostaglandin synthesis. Aim: To determine the dental anxiety level of patients reporting for treatment in a dental college in Kerala and to evaluate the relationship between dental anxiety level and dental caries status of patients. Materials and methods: Patients visiting the Department of Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics at Annoor Dental College & hospital, Muvattupuzha, in a period of two months who were older than 18 years were selected for the study. All participants were asked to fill out a Modified Dental Anxiety Scale (MDAS) to evaluate their level of dental fear. Gender, age, education level, socioeconomic status and oral health awareness were noted. Dental Caries statuses of patients were determined with DMFT index. Data collected were analyzed and frequencies were calculated. Pearson’s correlation test was applied to assess the relationship between dental anxiety level and dental caries status of the patients. Results: There is a significant association between the baseline characteristics of, age, sex, educational level, socioeconomic standards of the participants and their dental anxiety. Relationship between DMFT scores of the patient and anxiety level of the patient was also found to be significant. Conclusion: Patients with high level of dental anxiety have high caries status. So, elimination of dental fear is very important and should be managed by a patient centered approach. Key words: Dental anxiety, DMFT index, Dental caries.

Titanium (Ti) and its alloys are widely used for dental implant treatment. The insertion of dental implants containing titanium can be associated with various complications. Advancements in dental materials have given dentistry more promising materials, yet each material remains short of being the ideal one. Polyether ether ketone (PEEK) is one of the viable materials which is scientifically approved and safe materials in medical and dental use. Due to its excellent properties PEEK has several applications in field of dentistry like implants, removable and fixed partial dentures, and orthodontic wires. Oral haemangiomas are benign vascular tumors that can be classified as cavernous haemangioma and capillary haemangioma. Sinusoidal Haemangioma is a rare variant of cavernous haemangioma and is extremely infrequent in oral region. It represents only 1% of all haemangiomas and occurrence in the intramuscular location is unusual. Here we report the case of 5 year old female patient with swelling on the left dorsal surface of the tongue which was diagnosed histo-pathologically as sinusoidal haemangioma. Even though sinusoidal haemangioma has distinctive histopathological characteristics, many at a time these lesions are misdiagnosed as cavernous haemangioma. For an efficient and effective treatment of skeletal Class II malocclusion is by interceptive approach during the pubertal growth stage. When considering early Class II therapy psychosocial issues and a greater risk of dental trauma are certain factors that should be addressed. This case report is on a patient who underwent orthodontic treatment due to aesthetic discomfort with the incisors protrusion. As the patient was in the circumpubertal stage, it was decided to try a different approach of treatment. This case report is on Herbst appliance and fixed multibrackets therapy during the circumpubertal stage, resulting in an adequate outcome. Key words: Skeletal Class II malocclusion, Herbst appliance
Oroantral communication is a common sequalae following extraction of maxillary posterior teeth. If it fails to resolve within 48 hours, epithelization of the tract occurs and fistula formation results. It may manifest as nasal regurgitation of fluid during drinking, sinusitis etc. Effective management of the same is required to prevent long term complications. Management strategies ranges from palatal splint, alloplastic materials to buccal advancement flaps, sandwich techniques etc. Effective management requires individualized treatment plan with consideration about size of the fistula, time elapsed, preexisting infection and host defenses. Verrucous carcinoma or Ackerman’s tumor is considered a low-grade variant of oral squamous cell carcinoma. It usually occurs on buccal mucosa followed by gingiva, tongue and hard palate. Clinically it manifests as an ulceroproliferative growth with cauliflower like or irregular papillary appearance. Tobacco in any form, alcohol and viral infections from HPV are possible etiologic factors for this type of carcinoma. In this article, we have presented a classic case of verrucous carcinoma in a 39-year-old male with habit of chewing maawa (a form of smokeless tobacco). If left untreated or misdiagnosed, these lesions can transform into oral squamous cell carcinoma. Hence, proper diagnosis at appropriate time is essential for treating the disease, so that the patient is expected to have a salubrious life style.
